Smart Freezer Monitoring in Action

The Challenge

Freezer equipment issues often occur over time, but may not be caught by manual temperature checks and staff onsite until they are emergencies. Many temperature monitoring solutions create so many false alarms that alerts are simply ignored. The result: issues become emergencies, service and parts costs escalate, and unnecessary restaurant disruptions arise.

The Solution:

Smarter Monitoring from Cognition Controls notifies onsite staff when poor processes drive extended periods of temperature out of range, and HQ staff when trending data indicates equipment service is required.

In Action

Cognition data tracking and visualizations identified that the Walk-In Freezer (front) operated at the top end of the operating range. Defrost cycles temporarily pushed temperatures out of range, but overall the freezer operated in range. 🅐

Cognition machine learning algorithms
factored defrost cycles and door opens into alerting thresholds, notifying staff when onsite practices drove extended periods out of range, while avoiding unnecessary notifications. 🅑

Smart temperature trending alerts
identified a shift in the operating temperature trend of the freezer, indicating maintenance and calibration was required; onsite and HQ staff were notified. 🅒

While onsite staff insisted temperatures were within range, Cognition data drove HQ to dispatch a service call, which confirmed several equipment issues that would have continued to be overlooked until they became catastrophic emergencies.

Hi Joe,

We received a service all on the weekend, our tech's report is below & later today either myself of Mark will send you over a quote for a leak check and repair.

The freezer was running but the temperature was high.

Investigated it and found the sightglass was almost empty. Check the condenser coil

It was completely clogged.

Cleaned it and tested the operation

It was better than before, but still refrigerant level was low.

It should be followed the leak search and repair.
